I changed some of the connections between the lowercase letters in order to fit Holub’s calligraphy as opposed to the limited Intertype metal attempt. The usual extended treatment was given to Feel Script, all the way into the implementation of three-letter ligatures and the dreamiest swashes I could imagine. The experience I’ve accumulated from my previous calligraphy typefaces (Ministry Script, Affair, Buffet Script, Burgues Script, et al.) made it easier for me to apply Holub’s lettering in a new context using OpenType technology. Some letterforms were redrawn from vintage American magazine ads (some by Holub himself), along with many new alternates, ligatures, ending forms, and strangely beautiful character combinations. Holub’s lettering is presented in its entirety within Feel Script. Fortunately, I didn’t have the technological limitations today that Intertype had back then. All of the fonts in today’s post are actually OK for commercial use as well (always good to read the licenses to be sure).

I’ve looked at A LOT of text and fonts over the years and have put a great deal of thought and study into my own font choices. I’ve made thousands of scrapbook pages over the years (both paper and digital), taught scrapbooking classes, written for instructive scrapbooking sites, and been a digital designer. I see so many posts out there recommending hard-to-read fonts. My previous post on the best basic & free journaling fonts was very popular and I definitely want to continue on this series. I’m excited to tell you all about my favorite script fonts today.
